South Africa Jacques and Katherine's Journey to Tableview
Katherine, from Newcastle, did a gap year with newfrontiers in South Africa where she developed a heart for the poor and a heart for local likely lad Jacques. They married and came ot Liverpool for Katherine to study to be a Physio at Liverpool University, while Jacques worked for O2. Together they pioneered a successful student work and ran our best Alpha yet. They lead in so many areas, including the children's work, the youth work and were key leaders at Jubilee Church Liverpool. We really are sending our best to Tableview, South Africa. They will join the newfrontiers church plant there in January.
Becky's report on her gap year in Cape Town
I was based in Jubilee Community Church in Cape Town, working alongside Jeremy Hansen with the kids of the church and the local community. When I was there I had the opportunity to go into schools, work with the younger youth, kids klub and Sunday morning kids work. There was so much that I learnt while I was there about myself and the majority of the times it was through small children who seemed to have nothing. Yet even though they lacked materialistic items the one thing that kept them going was that Jesus was with them. A small boy of 10 who had witnessed his uncle being stabbed to death explained to me that even through this tragic time that it “was going to be ok because Jesus had his back”. The way the people of Jubilee Church welcomed me into their families made my trip so much more enjoyable. There were times when I struggled about what I saw and the unjustness of the lives of some of the people, but through it all God was with me and guided me and showed me that his heart is much bigger than mine and that He loves them so much more than I could ever understand.
